Himanka Kalita

Biography

Himanka is currently a Senior AI Engineer focusing on applications of Generative AI. Prior to this, he held positions as a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer in various industries. Himanka earned his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), Guwahati, India, and his Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree in Information Technology from the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Itanagar, India.

Summarizing his career, Himanka served as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) for Roma Tre University and the ENCASE project which was funded by the H2020 Marie Curie RISE program. He has been associated as an ESR with the Section of Applied Electronics, Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy. Apart from that he collaborated with CyRIC and SignalGeneriX in Nicosia and Limassol, Cyprus as an ESR. Additionally, he worked as an ESR with Telefónica I+D in Barcelona, Spain. Himanka also spent time as an Erasmus+ UI/UX researcher intern at TimeVillage, a startup based in Stockholm, Sweden. Earlier in his career, he worked as a project staff member at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, India, in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, contributing to the research and development project on the Integration and Maintenance of Virtual Labs, focusing on lab experiment simulation development.

Technical Interests

Currently, I am invested in the research and development of generative AI applications such as intuitive text generation, conversational chatbots, and related tools using natural language processing and large language models in Azure. Other areas of my current research are adversarial machine learning models for wearable bio-signals, computer vision, and mobile user recognition through behavioural biometrics. Study and improvement of robustness in healthcare recommendations, semantic segmentations, and biometric verification - identification models, are also included in my research. My focus on enhancing robustness through adversarial machine learning, ensuring a balance between interpretability and explainability, will help me to achieve ethical and responsible AI practices across these domains, creating a sense of trustworthiness in AI applications. Quality behavioural biometric, bio-signals, and related data based datasets are rare and I am contributing my solutions to this open research area. Apart from the research areas discussed above, I am also interested in the research of image and video processing, secret image sharing and image encryption, image analysis, pattern recognition, and real-time embedded systems.

Azure AI and OpenAI Studio Projects

From 2023, I have been actively involved in the research and development of recommendation engines for healthcare, and generative AI solutions using Azure AI studio, Azure OpenAI studio, Hugging Face framework, and through OpenAI API endpoints, for Ascendum, Esko, and Veralto.

ENCASE, funded by H2020 Marie Curie Fellowship

ENCASE (ENhancing seCurity and privAcy in the Social wEb): a user-centered approach for the protection of minors aims at leveraging the latest advances in usable security and privacy to design and implement a browser-based architecture for the protection of minors from malicious actors in online social networks (OSNs).

Virtual Labs

Virtual labs provides remote-access to labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering in India. These Virtual labs cater to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research scholars.
